The finalists for the Scottish Press Awards were announced earlier today… and two of the projects I worked on have been shortlisted for Innovation of the Year.
First up is Paywall 2.0, the new metered paywall system my team developed for HeraldScotland which saw subscription rates increase massively in 2013. Our work on this system has had large-scale, tangible business results – potentially showing a way forward for the entire Scottish newspaper industry in the digital age – so it’s great to see our efforts recognised with this shortlisting.
Also nominated is the Sunday Herald Life app for iPad, which we launched last year using the Adobe Digital Publishing Suite and our own in-house skills.
Looking across the whole industry, I honestly don’t think any other companies are innovating using in-house skills on anything like the scale we are, so it’s great to see that being recognised with the double nomination in this key, forward-looking category.
