I
learned to drive in my dad's 1989 silver Austin Montego (F140
OSL) in late 1993. By May 1994 I had passed my test and continued
to drive the Montego until September 1997 when my dad asked me to
help choose the new family car.
We
decided on a 1989 white BMW 320i (E30 type). This was only
the second car I had ever driven and I had only recently become
eligible to drive this type of car through our insurance company
-- they weren't too happy with the idea of me driving a 120bhp rear
wheel drive car until I had turned 21. I guess they were right because
I had no idea what driving a rear wheel drive car was all about
until I went round a wet corner with a bit too much gas on. Suddenly
the back end came round and I was facing the wrong way!
I've got my own car these days, but the BMW is still the family
car and puts a smile on my dads face every day. I'm trying to talk
him into making an import Subaru Impreza his next car -- 4WD and
280 brake would keep him smiling...
